Adam & Emma
Cragwood Country House Hotel
The ceremony was held in one of Crag Wood's warm, wallpapered rooms — small enough that everyone could actually see each other's faces when Adam put the ring on. Emma laughed. Properly laughed. The kind that spreads round the room before anyone knows what started it.
Her dad pulled her into a hug in the hallway, still holding the bouquet and his orange juice. Gran sat front and centre in a floral cape and a fascinator that meant business. The best man handed over the ring with a grin that suggested he'd been worrying about it all morning.
Outside, between ceremony and portraits, the dogs turned up in matching bow ties. Nobody seemed surprised.
The sun dropped fast over Windermere. Down at the jetty, the lake went orange, the fell-line sharp behind them. Up on the terrace, the sky behind the Lake District fells burned properly — the kind of sunset that makes you look twice and still not quite believe it. Crag Wood, sitting solid in its grounds above the water, caught the last of that light on its stone.
An intimate wedding. The right people, the right place, and a sky that had the good manners to put on a show.
