Lisa & Phil
East Lancashire Railway
Bury, Lancashire
The wedding started on the platform itself, under the Victorian canopy at Bury Bolton Street, with guests on red station benches and a maroon heritage carriage standing in for scenery. Lisa walked up past the train with her dad, and from the look on her face somewhere around the vows she wasn't holding it together quite as well as she'd planned.
Phil waited with his best man under the clock, pink tie, hands clasped, trying to look calm about it. The ceremony happened right there between the platforms, rings exchanged under the ironwork, before everyone moved off for the register and the first proper hug of the day.
Portraits came next, and the station gave them plenty to work with: a kiss beside the carriage windows, another under the Platform 4 sign, and a quieter moment on the bench beneath the Bury Bolton Street nameplate, legs crossed, in no hurry at all.
Lunch was served on board, in a wood-panelled carriage with pink curtains drawn against the sun, tea on the table and speeches delivered standing in the aisle because there wasn't really anywhere else to stand.
It finished the way it should have: outside on the platform, forks in hand, working through a cake with rather more enthusiasm than table manners.
