Paul & Lesley
Olde England Kiosk
Darwen, Lancashire
Guests picked their way along the woodland path into Sunnyhurst Wood, coats on against the April chill, heading for the Olde England Kiosk. Paul had his tie straightened one last time before the off, and by the ceremony room door hung a little wooden heart with both their names burned into it and the date underneath — somebody had thought of everything.
Lesley arrived in a ribbon-wrapped car, black dress spilling out of the door before she did. Inside, the timber-framed room at the Kiosk did what it does best: everyone close enough to see everything, vows held hand in hand, and a kiss that had the room on its feet. Their sons stood either side as they signed the register, which is the kind of detail you can't stage.
Outside, confetti and bubbles went up at once, and nobody quite ducked in time. Photos under the blossom arch came next, then a walk down into the wood itself — over the old stone bridge, under the trees, the water doing a decent impression of a mirror. Lesley's dress, it turns out, was built for exactly this kind of woodland backdrop.
Back at the Kiosk the evening filled up fast: speeches delivered mic-in-hand to a room that had clearly heard a few good ones already, a first dance under the lights with both their names up on the screen, and Lesley still laughing and dancing long after the formal bits were done. A good day, properly enjoyed, from the woods to the last song.
